Freedom Writers pt.5


1. How are the Freedom Writers like the Freedom Riders from the 1960s American Civil Rights movement?
The Freedom Writers are like the Freedom Riders from the 1960s, because they both have the feeling of being free.

2. Why does Andre get upset about the book 12 Angry Men? Does his behavior change because of that?
Andre gets upset about the book 12 Angry Men because the man get 15 years of prison. He is made because his brother get sent to prison.

3. How does Erin's dad show respect?
He tells her he respects her decision. He also tells her he is proud of her for sticking with her decision. That is how her dad showed her respect.

4. How have the students shown Ms. G respect? Why did they grow to respect her?
I think that the students have shown respect for Ms.Gruwell. I believe they grew to respect her because she treated them like everyone else. She gave them what they needed.

5. Is Ms.G respecting or disrespecting Andre when she talks to him in the hall about his evaluation paper? Why do you think that?
I think she is respecting him by calling him in the hall about his evaluation paper. I think that she is respecting him because she is trying to help him catch up in what they are doing.

6.Why did the class choose the name Freedom Writers? What is the metaphor?
The class choose the name the Freedom Writers because it represented what they did.

7. How does the older teacher make you feel? Would you want her as a teacher?
The older teacher makes me feel like she does not care about the other students. I would not like here as a teacher.

Freedom Writers pt.4




Today we watched part 3 of freedom writers.

1. What does a "Toast for Change" mean? How did the students respond in their toasts?
The "Toast for Change" is meaning that they are toasting about something bad has happen to them. They respond by saying something bad happen to them or there parents did something bad and it is not going to happen to them or happen again.

2.Write your own toast for change in you blog post.

3. Why do the students think of room 203 as their home?
The students think of room 203 because Ms. G makes them fell safe and everyone respect each other in room 203.

5. What an amazing difference in students attitudes! Describe the change you've seen.
There is an amazing difference in the students attitudes. The change that i have spot out that now they are actually respecting each other.

6. Why is the other teacher(older lady) always so upset?
The older teacher is always so upset because of every thing the other teacher is doing to help the kids that are not in honor class.

7.Why did Miep Gles(the woman who hid Anne Frank and her family) say she is not a hero? Do you agree? Why/not?
I believe that she is a hero, She wrote a book about what she has been through and she made it, it gave the student a way to get through thing they where in.

8.How does Marcus show his mother respect when he wants to move home?
When Marcus wanted to come home to show respect he help her carry in the food.

9.Why do you think Eva told the truth in the courtroom? Who did she respect and who did she disrespect by doing this?
Eva had told the truth because she wanted to be safe. She respected her family and disrespected the one kid that was on trial.

10. How do Cindy and Eva show respect to each other? Why does Cindy respect Eva now?
For them to show respect for each other they actually talk to each other. She respects Eva know because she gave her a present.

Freedom Writers pt. 3




Today watched part 3 of Freedom Writers.

1. At parent-teacher conferences/ open school nigh. Why is Ms. G disappointed?
Ms. G was disappointed because none of the students parents had showed up there.

2.What stands out to you from the journal entries?
What stands out to me is that none of the kid's are not even safe in there own homes, the fact that the girl could not do anything to help her mom getting hit by her dad.

3. How did Ms. G react to what she read?
She thinks that she needs to help them so, she gets 2 more jobs to get books for the kids and to take them to a trip out of town.

4. Why does Ms. G get extra jobs?
She gets extra jobs to get things that the kids need for school, like books and supplies.

5. Because Ms. G united her class she was able to reach them and teach them better. Why do you think it worked that way?
Because if Ms. G knows what they like she can use these type of things to teach them in a way they can understand.

6. Ms. G and her dad take the students on a trip. Where do they go? How do you think it impacted the students? Describe what you saw.
Ms. G and her dad take the kids to a Holocaust Museum. I think it impacted them by the older people telling the younger people what had happened to them, know i think that the kids will look after there self's a lot more.

7. The students have rarely been given anything until Ms. G gives them notebooks, books and attention. How does this affect their relationship and education? Why does it make a difference?
This affect their relationship and education, she stayed with them when they did not feel like working, the student believe that the teacher really cares about, and they have never had any one to believe in them as much as she does.

8. Why did Victoria, the honors student, change classes? Do you think you would have done the same or not? Why?
Victoria had changed class because she was treated different for all the other students. Yes, because i would not like being in the other class if i was being treated wrong.

Freedom Writers pt. 2


Today we watched part two of freedom writers, we only had 9 questions today.

1.For how different the people in different race gangs think they are, in what ways do you see they are similar?
The race gangs think that every thing about there gangs are different and they have nothing the same but the do, they all want respect from other people.

2. Why do some people feel the need to "protect their own?"
Some people feel the need to protect there own, because of other gangs.

3.How and why was the drawing Tito made to make fun of Jamal for being black like the propaganda drawing, news articles, and advertisements that made Germans hate the Jews during the WWII era?
The drawing Tito made to make fun of Jamal was i picture of him with really big lips. The Germans and the Jew put advertisements in news articles to make fun of each other to make them hate one another.

4. What's the most famous gang in history? Who was there leader? What was the Holocaust?
The most famous gang in history was the Nazi, and there leader was Hitler, the Holocaust was when the Germans where persecuting Jews.

5. Why do the students hate white people and teachers?
The reason why students hate white people and teachers is because they are always telling them what to do and talking about them all the time.

6. "When you die for your own, you die a warrior. You die with respect." What do you think about Macus comment?
What i think Macus comment means if you die for your gang you die a warrior. So you die with the respect of your gang members.
7. How does Ms. Gruwell try to help students learn? Describe how she finds connections and makes resources available.
To help the students learn she teaches the students in a way they can understand, to make a connection with here kids she plays music that they like.

8. The other teachers are very different from Ms. Gruwell. Do you think she is a better or worse teacher? Explain.
I think she is a better teacher than the others because she actually tries to connect with the students, unlike the other teachers.

9. How did the line game make students realize things about each other and themselves? Did Ms. Gruwell win them over by showing an interest? What did you think about the line game?
It made them think that they are not the only one that has had bad things happen to them. I think she did win them over by showing them an interest in each other. I think it was a good thing to do because it made the kids see how much they are alike.
